Jose Mourinho has explained Chelsea "love big games" after they ended Manchester City's home unbeaten record by winning 1-0 at the Etihad Stadium.

Chelsea were the better side on the night and deservedly took the lead when Branislav Ivanovic powered a shot home just after the half hour mark.

Mourinho's men did have some nervy moments throughout the remaining 70 minutes, but enjoyed chances of their own and struck the woodwork.

And the Portuguese feels his team love the big occasion.

"We love big games and the best thing for our evolution is to play matches under pressure", he said via his club's feed.

But Mourinho still talked up Manchester City's quality.

"We beat Man City twice but they are the best team we have played", he said.

"Today we won because we were the best team."
