Patrick van Aanholt flew to London last week for talks with Jose Mourinho over his Chelsea career, amid serious signs that the Dutchman has a future at Stamford Bridge.

Van Aanholt has spent the last two years on loan at Dutch side Vitesse, impressing in the Arnhem-based club's rise up the Eredivisie table.

With Ashley Cole's contract at Chelsea expiring in the summer, space is likely to be created for Van Aanholt.

According to Dutch daily De Telegraaf, the left-back headed to London last week for talks with Mourinho, and there is now a strong chance that he will return to Chelsea for next season.

The 23-year-old has clocked up 19 appearances in the Eredivisie for Vitesse so far this season, even chipping in with four goals and three assists.

His contract at Chelsea is due to run until the summer of 2015.
