John Terry has revealed that Chelsea were pleased to see Liverpool beat Manchester City earlier today, with a Reds win being the result that Jose Mourinho's men wanted.

Liverpool won a thrilling encounter at Anfield, running out 3-2 victors, to extend their lead over Manchester City to seven points in the Premier League; the Citizens have two games in hand but cannot overhaul the Reds.

Chelsea, who are second, then took to the pitch against Swansea City, knowing the result from Anfield. And a Demba Ba goal in the 68th minute saw them grind out the 1-0 win and three points which put them two points behind leaders Liverpool.

"We obviously knew it [the Liverpool result] and looking at the result it's the one we wanted really, even though Liverpool are flying", Terry admitted to Sky Sports after the win at Swansea.

"But the manager said if we don't win our games we make it easy for them", he added.

Terry also knows how vital it is that Chelsea continue to clock up the wins, with a visit to Liverpool on 27th April now key, while Manchester City have two games in hand on the Blues, but are just five points behind.

"It's very tough, but it's very important we keep winning our games at the moment", he said.

"We need City to lose or draw some of their games and we've still got to go to Anfield."
