Chelsea assistant first-team coach Steve Holland has stressed the importance of getting extra time to prepare for the next game will give the Blues an advantage come the end of the season.

While some of the Premier League teams have midweek fixtures this week, Chelsea’s next game is on Saturday against Sunderland at Stamford Bridge.

The former Crewe Alexandra manager also said that a Champions League week takes a toll on the players and getting extra days to recuperate will allow the squad to be fresh next week.

"I can't stress enough the extra demand that the Champions League brings with those fixtures in the week.”

Demba Ba’s solitary strike in the 68th minute helped Chelsea register a 1-0 win away over Swansea at the Liberty Stadium yesterday.

Chelsea are currently second in the league table on 75 points and will take on Sunderland in the Premier League next Saturday at Stamford Bridge.
