Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho has refused to comment on Thibaut Courtois being allowed to play against his parent club by saying that the managers don’t make the rules.

Courtois is on loan from Chelsea at Atletico Madrid and UEFA allowed the Belgian to represent the Spanish league leaders against the Blues in the first leg of their Champions League semi-final tie at the Vicente Calderon last night.

“It's best for me not to comment. UEFA make the rules, whether you accept them or not. It’s not for the manager to comment on”, the Portuguese was quoted as saying by AS.

Mourinho also refused to comment on Courtois or his possible return to Chelsea next season.

“I do not talk about players from other clubs.”

Courtois joined Chelsea from Genk in 2011 on a five-year deal and was immediately loaned out to Atletico Madrid; since then his loan deal to the Madrid club has been extended twice and is set to expire this summer.

The first leg of the Champions Leagues semi-final tie between Atletico Madrid and Chelsea ended in a 0-0 stalemate at the Vicente Calderon last night.
