Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho has declared "the best team won" after his side grabbed a 2-0 victory against Liverpool at Anfield.

Mourinho chose to rest a number of first team regulars in anticipation of Wednesday night's Champions League clash against Atletico Madrid, but still selected a strong side.

Nevertheless, Chelsea adopted ultra-defensive tactics at Anfield, packing their defence and getting numbers behind the ball, while being less than expansive going forward.

They gained a vital breakthough when Steven Gerrard could not control a pass and then slipped, allowing Demba Ba to steal in and score, just before half-time. Then, with Liverpool pouring forward at the end of the match, Chelsea broke, with Willian putting the finishing touches to the victory.

And Mourinho was delighted.

"The best team won, in my opinion", he said via his club's feed.

"Every player was magnificent.

"Demba Ba did fantastically for his goal, staying cool against a good goalkeeper.

"[Mark] Schwarzer needed to play having not played many games this season and today was good for his confidence", he added.

Chelsea are now two points behind league leaders Liverpool.
