Atletico Madrid defender Filipe Luis feels that Adrian Lopez’s 44th minute equaliser was the turning point of the match against Chelsea last night.

Atletico Madrid progressed to the Champions League final by beating Chelsea 3-1 in the second-leg of their semi-final tie at Stamford Bridge after the Blues took the lead in the 36th minute when Fernando Torres scored against his old club.

“They started on the front foot, but we kept calm. The equalising goal was decisive – it was the first time we had an advantage in the tie”, Luis told UEFA’s official site.

The Brazilian praised his side’s composure to stick to their style of play and admits that when Diego Costa scored the second goal for Los Indios in the 60th minute, it became easier for them to control the pace of the game.

“We always play in the same way, defending strongly and breaking on the counterattack. After Diego Costa scored, we felt more comfortable and had more of the ball.”

The 28-year-old defender is looking forward to the Madrid derby in Lisbon and believes that they can beat their more fancied opponents in the final.

“The final will be a spectacular game. Real Madrid have the best squad in the world, so it will be difficult, but everyone dreams of winning the UEFA Champions League, so we will do our best.”

This will be Atletico Madrid’s first final appearance in Europe’s premier club competition since 1974 when they were beaten 4-0 in a final replay by Bayern Munich at the Heysel Stadium, Brussels.
