Chelsea are interested in signing Atletico Madrid’s Filipe Luis this summer to solve their problematic left-back position.

The Blues are in the market to sign a top quality left-back as Ashley Cole is set to leave once his contract expires this summer.

The west London side are willing to make a cash offer to Atletico Madrid that will be close to the €24m buyout close that the Brazilian has in his contract. Chelsea believe that the close relationship that they enjoy with Los Indios will bring the Spanish champions to the negotiating table, according to Marca.

Luis is believed to be interested in a move away from Atletico Madrid. The Brazilian will turn 29 this August and is thought to feel that this will be the last chance in his career to earn a big money move to a big club.

Chelsea are willing to offer almost €5m per year salary, a sum that would nearly double the former Deportivo de La Coruna left-back’s salary at Los Indios.

Mourinho is actively searching for a left-back this summer and believes Luis is one of the top players in the world in that position.

The 28-year-old clocked up 49 appearances for the club in this campaign and played a crucial role in Atletico Madrid’s league title triumph this season.
