Former Chelsea and Liverpool midfielder Yossi Benayoun is returning to his homeland of Israel after signing a contract with Maccabi Haifa.

Benayoun spent last season at QPR and made 17 appearances for Harry Redknapp's men, helping them to win promotion back to the Premier League.

But the 34-year-old will not be staying with the R's and has chosen to head back to Israel to finish his career.

Benayoun had a four-year spell at Maccabi Haifa between 1998 and 2002, before leaving to join Spanish side Racing Santander.
