Chelsea have confirmed that young defender Tomas Kalas is heading to Germany this summer.

The Blues have agreed to allow Kalas to spend next term on loan at 1. FC Koln in the Bundesliga, in order that he can clock up regular first team football in one of the most competitive leagues in Europe.

Kalas had a taste of first team football at Chelsea last season, being handed his full debut against title-chasers Liverpool at Anfield, as the Blues won 2-0.

Now he will put his mind to another task, that of stopping Koln slipping back down to the 2. Bundesliga; Koln were promoted to the Bundesliga as 2. Bundesliga champions this season.

Kalas has also enjoyed a loan spell away from Chelsea before, spending time with Vitesse in the Dutch top flight.
