Jose Mourinho has expressed his confidence that Chelsea will sign striker Diego Costa from Atletico Madrid.

The Blues have signalled their intent to activate Costa's €38m release clause with Atletico Madrid, while the Spain international is also thought to have passed a medical with Chelsea.

Yesterday Atletico Madrid president Enrique Cerezo insisted that Costa remains at the Vicente Calderon. But Mourinho is confident that will not be the case for long.

"Costa is a player who I want to have in my team", he told Marca.

"I've asked my club for him and I have total confidence that we're going to achieve it and he will end up signing for Chelsea", Mourinho added.

Costa scored 36 goals in all competitions for Atletico Madrid last season as Diego Simeone's men won La Liga and reached the Champions League final.

He is currently in Brazil as part of Vicente del Bosque's World Cup squad, having chosen to play for Spain instead of his homeland of Brazil.
