Chelsea striker Fernando Torres has welcomed the signing of Cesc Fabregas from Barcelona and feels he is the type of player the Blues lacked.

Chelsea announced the signing of Fabregas last week from Barcelona for a transfer fee of £30m on a five-year-contract, handing him the number 4 shirt.

Torres is happy to welcome his Spanish team-mate to the west London club, but said that he would have been happier if he signed for them two years earlier.

"I wish he could have joined us a couple of years earlier", the 30-year-old told Spanish radio station Onda Cero.

The former Liverpool man believes Fabregas is the type of player Chelsea lacked last season, someone who can make the key pass in the final third.
