Jose Mourinho believes Chelsea are no longer in Frank Lampard’s heart, following his side’s 1-1 draw with Manchester City in the Premier League yesterday.

The 36-year-old, who left the Blues in the summer, came off the bench to equalise at the Etihad Stadium against his former club.

It was Lampard’s first goal for Manchester City, having joined the club on loan from MLS outfit New York City FC after leaving Chelsea.

And Mourinho explained that the midfielder, who scored 211 goals in 648 appearances for Chelsea between 2001 and 2014, wants to defeat the Stamford Bridge club while in his spell with the English champions.

However, the Portuguese tactician feels Chelsea may once again find a place back in Lampard’s heart once he leaves Manchester City.

"I feel that when a player leaves another club and plays for a direct opponent, he is not going there for a holiday, he is going there to try and beat his club – the one everyone considers the club of his heart, but not anymore", Mourinho told the BBC.

"Maybe again [Chelsea will be in his heart] when he leaves City, but while at City he wants to beat Chelsea.

"That is the nature of football."
