Jose Mourinho has sympathised with Maccabi Tel Aviv after his Chelsea side thrashed the Israeli outfit 4-0 in the Champions League this evening.

Chelsea needed only 12 minutes to take the lead in Israel and had Gary Cahill to thank for it. The defender powered a header at goal from a corner, which the Maccabi Tel Aviv goalkeeper could only tip onto the post.

The ball fell for Cahill, who helped it into the net.

Maccabi Tel Aviv were reduced to ten men in the 41st minute, making it an uphill struggle.

Chelsea lost John Terry to an injury in the 72nd minute, the defender being replaced by Kurt Zouma, while the Blues then grabbed their second goal a minute later.

It came from Willian, who curled a free-kick over the wall and into the bottom corner.

Chelsea's third arrived in the 77th minute, Baba Rahman picking out Oscar in the box, the Brazilian making no mistake with a header.

A fourth to cap off the evening came at the death, Kurt Zouma heading in from a corner.

Chelsea had the victory, but Mourinho felt the scoreline was a little harsh on Maccabi Tel Aviv.

"It was very important especially with what happened in Porto. It is also important to have two victories in a few days", he was quoted as saying by the BBC.

"I hope tranquility comes, morale comes, confidence comes.

"In this moment we are in a good position. They don't deserve such a hard punishment, they did OK for periods of the game with 10 men", he added.

"Asmir Begovic had a beautiful hand to keep a clean sheet. The pitch doesn't help, it was really difficult for us."
