Arsenal defender Mathieu Debuchy has revealed that Arsene Wenger blocked a switch to Manchester United in the winter transfer window, something he would have found "magnificent".
The 30-year-old joined French club Bordeaux on a loan deal until the end of the season after falling out of the picture at the Emirates Stadium with Hector Bellerin being the first choice right-back for the north London club.
Manchester United boss Louis van Gaal was keen on bringing in an experienced full-back to deal with the injuries in that area of his squad, and was hoping to sign the Frenchman in the winter.
But the 30-year-old claimed that he was denied a switch to the Red Devils on deadline day after Wenger clearly stated that he would not allow the player to join one of the Gunners' biggest competitors, and so Debuchy was forced to make a move back to his homeland in search of more playing time.
“It would have been magnificent”, Debuchy told French television channel Canal+ on the proposed transfer.

“I discussed it with the coach, who said that obviously he couldn't help out a rival.
“Unfortunately it wasn't the case.
"Yes, I'm a little bit annoyed with him. It's his choice”, the player further added.
Debuchy, who has 69 international caps for France to his name, has already made three appearances for the Ligue 1 club since joining and will now be looking to prove his mettle with the Girondins.
