Valencia defender Aymen Abdennour has revealed that he held talks with clubs in the Premier League during the summer transfer window, but a move never materialised due to "financial reasons".

The 27-year-old was linked with a move away from La Liga to the English top division with Antonio Conte's Chelsea showing keen interest in securing his services.

A deal though eventually did not happen with the Pensioners going for their former player David Luiz, re-signing him from French champions Paris Saint-Germain.

Abdennour, on his part, has revealed that financial problems got in the way of him and the deal being put through, though he did not mention the name of any club that were looking to sign him.

"I was negotiating with English clubs during the transfer window, but for financial reasons the transfer did not happen", the centre-back was quoted as saying by Spanish daily Marca.

The Tunisia international, who has a contract until 2020 with the Spanish side, also took time to speak about his willingness to honour his contract, despite the failed move.

"Valencia is a great club and I have no problem continuing because I have four years left on my contract."
