Chelsea legend Pat Nevin has admitted that he feels sorry for Andreas Christensen, who he feels is likely to be dropped at the weekend despite helping the Blues keep a clean sheet against PAOK on Thursday.

Christensen made his first start of the season under Maurizio Sarri against PAOK in the Europa League as the Blues held on for a slender 1-0 win at the Toumba Stadium in Thessaloniki.

The defender looked comfortable at the heart of a back four alongside Antonio Rudiger in a raucous atmosphere in northern Greece and never looked like succumbing to the pressure generated by the home fans.

The Chelsea faithful have been longing to see Christensen in action and were not handed any sort of disappointment as the youngster grew in confidence with every passing minute.

However, Nevin admitted that he feels sorry for Christensen because the defender is likely to be dropped to the bench for Sunday’s trip to West Ham, with David Luiz likely to return to the starting eleven alongside Eden Hazard.

“Christensen I felt particularly sorry for because he comes in and did not put a foot wrong”, Nevin said on Chelsea TV.

“But you get the feeling it's not going to be enough”, he added.

Chelsea made it six wins out of six with the result against PAOK and are high in confidence under Maurizio Sarri.
