Derby County manager Frank Lampard insists that both Harry Wilson and Mason Mount will go a long way in their careers after the Rams’ sensational EFL Cup win over Manchester United.

Both Wilson and Mount, on loan from Liverpool and Chelsea respectively, impressed during Derby’s win over the Red Devils at Old Trafford on Tuesday.

The duo played the entirety of the game as Lampard’s men registered a win on penalties after the two teams were level at 2-2 by the end of normal time in the third round of the EFL Cup.

Wilson found the back of the net from a free-kick in the second half while also tucking away his penalty in the shootout, just like Mount.

Lampard was not shy of heaping the praise on the duo and he suggested that both players are more than capable of going a long way in their respective careers.

“Harry Wilson does do that in training, he proved me wrong as I thought it was too far out. Both he and Mason Mount are going to go a long way”, Lampard said on Sky Sports.

The Chelsea legend also admitted that he was delighted with performance and went on to claim that his players showed tremendous heart to compete and come out on top against a quality opposition.

“I'm shell shocked. What a performance. To go down early at Old Trafford and play as well as they did was superb.

“We had the personality to take penalties and play the way we did. I am a proud manager.

"It was the easiest selection I have had, the players were superb against Brentford and they deserved the chance to play at Old Trafford.

“I wanted to bring a team who could really compete. I am so proud of them.

"I am trying to build a group to be successful and nights like this are incredible. To go against world-class players and play that way, it's right up there”, he added.

Both Mount and Wilson will be looking to kick on at Pride Park as they aim to return to Chelsea and Liverpool as better players.
