Germany legend Lothar Matthaus has urged Bayern Munich to secure a deal for Arsenal linked Kai Havertz from Bayer Leverkusen this summer.
Havertz, who became Leverkusen’s youngest ever player to debut in the Bundesliga in 2016, has been a revelation under the tutelage of Peter Bosz this term.
The 19-year-old has established himself as one of the most exciting talents in the Bundesliga this season, after netting 20 goals and notching up seven assists for his team-mates in all competitions.
As such, Havertz has emerged as a potential target for the likes of Arsenal and Bayern Munich during the summer transfer window.
And in the wake of rumours linking Havertz with a move away from Leverkusen, Matthaus has urged Bayern Munich to quickly seal a deal for the highly-rated midfielder.
The former Bayern Munich star believes Havertz has the potential to play for European bigwigs like Barcelona and Real Madrid, and feels the Bavarians must spend some money on him this summer, instead of letting him move elsewhere.
“In Barcelona, I could well imagine him next to [Lionel] Messi”, Matthaus told German magazine Sport Bild.
“Havertz would also be a good fit for Real Madrid, with him playing in almost all midfield positions, including defensively.
“I would recommend to Bayern get him this summer.
"It's better to pay a few million more [than you wanted] than to see him go abroad.”
Havertz, who became the first teenager in Bundesliga history to finish a campaign with 17 goals at the end of the recently concluded season, is under contract at Leverkusen until the summer of 2022.
