The Toffees went into Saturday’s Premier League clash against Watford looking to bounce back from a narrow 1-0 defeat to West Ham United.

However, Everton finished on the wrong end of a 5-2 hammering against the Hornets, with the home team conceding four goals after the 75-minute mark.

Ex-Toffees star Ball is disappointed seeing the Everton defence come undone in the fashion it did against Watford but is concerned it could happen again.

Ball slammed Everton players for not showing any pride in wanting to keep clean sheets by giving everything on the pitch, and stressed boss Rafael Benitez and the coaching staff need to make changes.

“We understand that the manager has been dealt a bad card since he came to the football club in terms of injuries, but we haven’t really played anyone of great quality and I’m concerned when we do, these scorelines won’t be a one off”, Ball wrote in his Liverpool Echo column.

“Already it isn’t. It’s different managers but how many times have this group of players let four or five goals in?

“They don’t seem to have any sort of pride when it comes to trying to keep a clean sheet, putting everything on the line.

“Rafa and the coaching staff have got to be proactive.”

Having suffered back-to-back defeats in the league for the first time this season, Everton will be desperate to get back in the win column on Monday when they travel to Molineux to take on Wolverhampton Wanderers.
