Haaland is expected to move on from Dortmund in the summer and Manchester City are leading the race to sign the forward in the coming months.

The reigning English champions are prepared to pay his €75m release clause and are ready to offer him a contract that would make Haaland the best-paid player in the Premier League.

Haaland has reportedly rejected the initial offer from Manchester City and Hamann stressed that he still does not believe Guardiola actually wants to sign the Norwegian.

The German pointed out that Guardiola was happy to move on both Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Samuel Eto’o when he was at Barcelona and is not a fan of playing with a number 9 in his team.

The former Citizen does not believe Haaland is the kind of player who would excel under the Manchester City manager.

Hamann told German magazine Sport Bild: “I will only believe that Haaland will go to City when the ink has dried.

“Guardiola sent Ibrahimovic and Eto’o away from Barcelona.

“I don’t think he wants a number 9.

“And Haaland is actually an anti-Pep player.”

Haaland is believed to be pushing for a move to Real Madrid rather than Manchester City.
