Everton’s season went from bad to worse on Wednesday night when they suffered a 3-2 defeat away to Burnley in a big relegation six-pointer.

Burnley are now just a point behind Everton, who are sitting 17th in the league table, just above the relegation zone.

Everton went into the break 2-1 ahead and Osman stressed that they paid the price for not taking the chances that they created at the start of the second half.

The former Toffee insisted that Everton just do not have the defensive strength to compensate for not taking their chances and it is no surprise that they are in their current predicament because they have the most porous of back fours in the Premier League.

Osman said on Premier League TV after the game: “At the start of the second half, Everton had two really big opportunities to kill the game off.

“They missed them and you are always going to put pressure on your back four as an away team as the home team are going to have a moment.

“And unfortunately, Everton’s back four is nowhere near good enough.

“They continue to give mistakes away, they continue to expose themselves and continue to leak the softest goals that the Premier League has to offer.

“And there is no surprise to see that Everton are more than just in trouble and I think the panic will start to set in.”

Everton are set to embark on a daunting run of fixtures that will start with Manchester United visiting Goodison Park on Saturday.
