Everton were on a six-match undefeated run in the Premier League before their defeat at the hands of Erik Ten Hag’s Manchester United on Sunday at Goodison Park.

Lampard’s side went ahead with Alex Iwobi’s goal in the early minutes of the game but failed to defend the lead as Anthony and Cristiano Ronaldo made the scoreline 2-1 in favour of the visitors.

Tarkowski, who featured in Sunday’s game, believes that Everton failed to press the Red Devils properly and gave away balls cheaply to the opposition.

The centre-back stressed that Everton have performed well so far in the season but admitted that there are some issues that need to be dealt with.

Tarkowski believes the Toffees have shown a lot of togetherness and character against Manchester United and insisted that Sunday’s defeat will not dampen the spirit in the squad

“We managed to get a goal early but the issues were clear”, Tarkowski told Everton’s official site.

“We caught them out a few times but when we got the ball high, we didn’t quite get our press right or we gave the ball away too easily.

“But we’ve been good this season and there’s a really good feeling around the place, so we’re not going to get too down about it but things need to be addressed, simple things that we can all do better as a team.

“The spirit is definitely a positive we can take away.

“We’ve got good character in the group, a lot of personality and a lot of togetherness.

“I think that showed today, because we weren’t at our best and in games like that you have to stick together, which we did and we could have got something from the game at the end.”

Everton will next travel to London to take on Antonio Conte’s Tottenham Hotspur at the weekend and will be eager to get back to winning ways against Spurs.
