Everton went into the World Cup break on the back of two straight defeats and are just a point and a place above the relegation zone.

The Toffees have won just one of their last seven Premier League games and there are question marks over Lampard’s future at Everton.

The Everton manager is under pressure, but he stressed that he was never expecting a comfortable season after they barely managed to survive in the Premier League in the previous campaign.

He insisted that their current position is their harsh reality and stressed the importance of time in any building process.

Lampard was quoted as saying by Sky Sports: “It was always going to be a tough year for us from where we were last year, the experience of fighting against relegation.

“We’re there again and that’s what it is but we’re trying to build.

“Sometimes the building process takes time.”

Everton will return to action after the World Cup on Boxing Day when they will take on Wolves at Goodison Park, while the January transfer window, offering Lampard a chance to strengthen, is also looming on the horizon.
