Saint-Maximin played more than a half of football for the first time in the Premier League since August when he started against West Ham United last weekend.

However, his performance against the Hammers came in for criticism and Newcastle ended up drawing for the fourth time in five Premier League games.

Howe is of the opinion that Saint-Maximin is at his best when he gets a consistent run of games and he currently has a window to impress for Newcastle.

The Newcastle boss also defended the attacker’s display last weekend, calling certain aspects of his game good and giving credit to West Ham for handling him well.

“Maxi is someone who performs better with a consistent run of games”, Howe said in a press conference.

“He has a window to impress.

“Some aspects of his game were good last week.

“There was no lack of effort from him.

“West Ham managed him well.”

Saint-Maximin has also not made a goal contribution in the Premier League since November and he will be looking to improve his form with the minutes he gets on the pitch.
