Rangers have made a slow start to the season, which has seen them fail to reach the Champions League group stage and fall four points behind Celtic in the league table already.

Their 1-0 defeat to Celtic at home on Sunday brought further scrutiny because Brendan Rodgers’ side were dealing with multiple defensive injuries going into the local derby.

Michael Beale overhauled the Rangers squad in the summer with several new signings and Ferguson believes the Gers boss must be particularly worried about the way the forwards have played at the start of the season.

The Rangers legend also stressed that the time to bed in the new signings is over and they will now have to deal with the pressure of producing results as soon as the international break is over.

Talking about Sunday’s derby, the former Rangers captain said on the Go Radio Football Show: “Yes, [I am] still frustrated, if I am being honest.

“There wasn’t a lot of quality from both teams. I thought Rangers were very wasteful in the final third and that’s something that must be worrying Michael Beale.

“He needs more quality from the front players, there is no doubt about that and now they are going to come under a fair bit of pressure because they need to start delivering.

“It’s been four to five weeks, ten or eleven games and now people will start to assess the new signings because they had the time to settle in.

“Now, it’s time to produce and they need to start producing once the international break is over.”

Rangers will return from the break with a trip to St. Johnstone on Saturday 16th September.
