Rangers will open their Europa League campaign tonight when they host Real Betis in their opening group game of the tournament at Ibrox.

Sparta Prague and Aris Limassol are the other two teams who make up the rest of the Group C of the Europa League.

Ferguson is looking forward to seeing Rangers getting their Europa League campaign going tonight and stressed that they need to progress from Group C of the competition.

He insisted that given the quality of the other teams in the group, it would be a massive concern for the club if Rangers were not involved in Europa League football after Christmas.

The Rangers legend said on the Go Radio Football Show: “Rangers, in terms of being in that Europa League group, they need to be getting out of that.

“There is no doubt in my mind.

“If you look at the teams – Betis, Prague, Limassol – if Rangers don’t get out of that then that will be worrying times for them.”

Rangers did reach the Europa League final in the 2021/22 season under Giovanni van Bronckhorst.
