AC Milan have an agreement in place over a contract for the signature of Partizan Belgrade youngster Matija Popovic despite late interest from Manchester City.

The 17-year-old attacking midfielder has been turning heads across Europe with his performances for Partizan’s academy, scoring 21 times in 25 appearances.

He has also represented Serbia at Under-17 level and scouts from across Europe have been keeping tabs on him.

AC Milan have been working on a deal to sign the Serbian for a while and talks have been taking place over a move.

Manchester City are claimed to have made a late move to try and get their hands on Popovic as well but according to Italian outlet Calciomercato.com, AC Milan still have their noses ahead in the race.

It has been suggested that an agreement over a contract is in place between AC Milan and Popovic’s camp.

A five-year deal has been agreed upon and AC Milan are now trying to finalise the terms of his transfer.

He will turn 18 on 8th January and he is expected to be in Italy in the following days to sign a contract with the Rossoneri.
