Manchester United are set to approach Crystal Palace for their sporting director Dougie Freedman with the Red Devils wanting him as their new head of recruitment, according to the Independent.

The new Manchester United minority owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe is keen to have a new structure in place before the summer.

Manchester United are in talks with Newcastle United for Dan Ashworth, who they want as their new sporting director and Omar Berrada will also not take charge of them as CEO until the summer.

The club want a new head of recruitment as soon as possible and Freedman has emerged as the top target.

Crystal Palace are bracing to receive an approach from Manchester United for the former striker soon.

The Scotsman has been their sporting director since 2017 and has earned praise for the squad he has built since then.

Freedman has been credited with bringing in young talents to Palace over the last few years and it has impressed the new owners at Old Trafford.

Crystal Palace are unlikely to stand in his way if the 49-year-old is keen to move to Manchester United.

Freedman played for Crystal Palace, Wolves and Nottingham Forest and even managed teams such as Bolton and Palace before taking the sporting director role at Selhurst Park in 2017.
