Everton’s director of football Kevin Thelwell has revealed that the club have kept in close contact with their academy graduate Harry Tyrer throughout his loan spell at Chesterfield.

The 22-year-old is currently in the middle of a loan spell at National League side Chesterfield where he has been a regular, featuring in all but four games.

The goalkeeper’s absence from Merseyside though has not prevented the Toffees from tying him down with a new deal which will keep him at Everton for an extra year.

While expressing his delight at having managed to tie the player down with a new contract, the club’s director of football revealed how Everton have kept check of the progress of the goalkeeper even while he has been away.

“We’re delighted for Harry to extend his deal with the club”, Thelwell told his club’s official channel.

“He’s a very promising young goalkeeper and we’ve been really impressed by his development over the years.

“We’ve kept in close contact with him throughout his time on loan and we believe he’s made the right steps so far in his career.

“We look forward to seeing him continue his progression at the club.”

Tyrer, who has been a regular with Everton’s Under-21s team, has kept training with their senior side and was on the bench on a number of occasions as well.

He will now be looking to impress Sean Dyche over the course of the summer.
