Danny Collins is of the view that Sunderland did well against Leeds United, who have good depth and are contenders for promotion this season.
On Friday night, Leeds took on Sunderland at the Stadium of Light in the Championship and the game finished with a 2-2 scoreline.
Leeds were leading the game 2-1 in the 96th minute of injury time when Sunderland equalised due to a howler from Whites goalkeeper Ilian Meslier.
Collins is of the view that Leeds’ performance showed that why Daniel Farke’s side are promotion contenders but stressed that the game was a good test for Regis Le Bris’ Sunderland.
He believes that the Whites have good squad depth and thinks that Sunderland did well against a good Leeds side.
“It was a good game, really”, Collins told Sunderland’s media.
“You can see both sides why they are up there and why certainly Leeds will be expected to be among the [promotion contenders].
“Obviously the depth in their squad and it was a good test for us, as we said before the game.
“We beat Burnley here earlier in the season, but coming up against a Leeds side who are fancied to go up this season, we more than held our own.”
On Friday, Leeds missed out on an opportunity to go up in the league table by drawing against the Black Cats.
